    Whether or not a user knows the name of the software…it highlights the fact that Google has brought GIS to more users in 3 years than ESRI has been able to do in 30!

    That depends on how you define GIS. Based upon what Google Earth and Maps do, you could make the case that a large chunk of credit goes to MapQuest or someone like that.

    Let’s not understate Google’s reach and impact but let’s not overstate their originality either.
