NewStatesman New Media Awards
The NewStatesmen have announced the winners of their 2007 New Media awards; congratulations to everyone at mySociety who secured an award for their ‘contribution to civic society’ with their exemplary website… FixMyStreet.

FixMyStreet is easy to use and demonstrates the benefits of online mapping. Residents can report, view or discuss local problems by locating the issue on a map. The magazine supplement can be downloaded (or viewed online) by following this link…New Media Awards, and you can discover other mySociety projects here…mySociety projects.

I’d like to 2nd this. FixMyStreet, previously, NeighbourhoodFixIt, is a great idea that actually works. I’ve reported a variety of things through the site that and the council has always either followed things up with me or fixed the problem. The award is 100% deserved.

Another couple of interesting winners, from a geospatial perspective…
Futurelab…they’ve won the NewMedia award for Education with their website to help teachers create mediascapes - location-based media; and James Wheare, winner of the ‘Young Innovator’ award for his website (and google maps mashup) Livebus.org.
